Nau mai haere mai and a warm welcome to Room 2's 2009 web page.
Objective: Te Ao Ipurangi will be guided by the School Charter which describes the learning and achievement goals for all our students. Additionally, the Year 7 programme will "foster and encourage" the learning of Tikanga and Te Reo Maori through enrichment.
What's on this Term 1 - 2009
Our focus for this term is "Developing a sense of belonging" which encompasses positive relationships between school and the wider community. We will be looking at developing effective strategies to deal with change, coping with new rules, school and for some students wearing a school uniform for the first time!!!
In weeks 5 and 6 the Year 7's will once again head out to Ruatuna Camp located at Ohaupo for a day's camping trip. There, the students will make a bivouac using natural resources and then have an opportunity to make their own damper and cook their own sausages for lunch. They will then learn about bush first aid using natural resources. The students will cover and research how to make a fire/bivouac, safety aspects etc in the class prior to Camp. The syndicate will be split into two groups - Rms 17, 12 and 13 will go on one day followed by Rms 2, 8 and 14 the following week. A foyer display will showcase aspects of the Camp during Weeks 9-10, check it out!
Pubertal Change is also one of the major topics for the Year 7 syndicate this term. Room 2 students will be looking at changes that occur during the time they are at intermediate, this includes changes to their bodies, emotional changes, aspects of physical as well as emotional changes. If you have any queries concerning this Unit, please do not hesitate to contact me via school email/office. Letters advising Parents of this Unit will be sent out early in the Term, well before the Unit is started.
It is really appreciated that Room 2 students come to school each day with the correct uniform and stationery requirements. Some students , as yet still do not have their full stationery requirements and if this is a problem please let me know because we can work something out. I am quite prepared to supply books, pens on a barter basis so please contact me if this becomes a problem. As well, Homework is set each week, mostly from Monday's to Friday and on occasion Tuesday's to Tuesdays. I appreciate your help in ensuring that your child brings their homework back to class on the due date. PE gear has caused some concern...I recommend that PE gear is brought to school daily and your co-operation in making sure PE gear comes to school with your child would be great.
