Hello my name is Gordon I am an Enviro Agent. Within our Enviro-school we have a group that has regular meetings with the lead teacher Miss Goodlet to talk about, plan for and to do something positive about trying to minimize waste, power and water in our school.
This year we have conducted rubbish serves and were shocked with the amount of litter around our school. Check out our photos. In term 3 Mrs Patterson our D.P. set up a system that reduces this rubbish and helps our school to a more attractive place to be.
Other projects include our Rainwater Recycling that will help us to water our plants in our Bio-tech gardens and hopefully in the future help us to reduce the amount of town supply water that is being flushed down the loo.
Paper Recycling and our worm farms are ongoing projects that help to reduce waste in and around our school while creating great fertilizer for our gardens and getting free trees including many natives to plant around the school grounds.
Our schools front entrance has also had a huge make over this year and it helps to show our school values. S.T.A.R.S. Strive for Excellence, Take Pride, Accept Responsibility, Respect everybody, and Show Integrity.
We are currently discussing ways to reduce further waste in the school and looking at the types of packaging in school lunch boxes and food sold from the school canteen. This also leads to healthier lunch items and more energy for students, so everybody wins.
In recent year Mrs Willson the Year 7 team leader developed a mural painting project to make Melville Marvelous, many amazing murals are around our school and yes it does look marvelous. Take a look for your self at some of the great works of art including the most recent addition to our school created by our own Matua Pete.
